TVDE Training

Looking for a way to increase monthly income? Carrying passengers can be a simple way to do this. In fact, this has been the solution for many families who need a little extra in their budget or want to completely change the course of their lives. However, to be able to carry out this activity, you must obtain TVDE training.

The law No. 293/2018 is the norm that approved the legal regime for the training of drivers for the Transport of Mischaracterized Vehicles – TVDE. This type of transport is carried out by registering on electronic platforms.

The objective of the training is to prepare and qualify drivers who work or intend to work in this activity. In this way, it is possible to guarantee technical, human and social skills to perform the function correctly.

General Information

The TVDE Formation – stands for Individual and Paid Transport of Passengers in Uncharacterised Vehicles from an Electronic Platform (in portuguese: Transporte de Veículos Descaracterizados a partir de Plataforma Eletrónica). This training is mandatory for those who want to become a professional driver and earn some money working with it.

This type of Transport is regulated by Portuguese Legislation, and training is necessary to ensure that drivers know the rules, regulation, and good practices associated with the profession.

You can choose one of the following options:

  • Labor In-Person Odivelas: 3 days – 09h / 18h (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) +  Practical training (6h)
  • Labor In-Person  Amora: 3 days – 09h / 18h (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) +  Practical training (6h)
  • Labor Online: 3 days – 09h / 18h (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) +  Practical training (6h)
  • Post Labor Online: 6 days – 18h30 / 22h30 (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h)  +  Practical training (6h)

The TVDE Training is intended for drivers who want to earn extra income by transporting passengers through online platforms such as Uber and Bolt.

Individuals of all genders, with proven good conduct through the presentation of a Criminal Record Certificate and Medical Certificate and Psychotechnical Exam.

Requirements / Documents

To obtain the TVDE Training, you will need:

  • Portuguese Document of Identity (Citizen Card, Residence Card or CPLP authorization with Passport)
  • Driving License 
  • 3 years of Category B
  • Full Address
  • Mobile Number
  • Specific Criminal Record (without annotations)

If you only have a Foreign Driving License, you can enroll in the TVDE Training in the same way, knowing that you will only be able to select a date for the training after you have submitted your Portuguese Driving License to this training entity. By enrolling in advance, you will have an advantage in choosing the date of the training.


Note:
If you have Category C or D, you don’t need to endorse your Driver’s License for Group II.

Learning Process

The Initial TVDE Training has a duration of 50 hours, including mandatory theoretical and practical components.

This training is composed of 6 modules: 

  • Communication and Interpersonal Relations – 10 hours 
  • Legal Driving Standards – 10 hours 
  • Driving Techniques – 10 hours 
  • Regulations of the Activity – 6 hours 
  • Emergency Situations and First Aid – 8 hours
  • Individual Vehicle Driving – 6 hours

With the introduction of the Law 344/2024/1, of 19 december, at the end of the training the candidate will have to complete an assessment at the IMT facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to complete the TVDE training entirely online?

You can complete the entire theoretical part online, but the practical part of the TVDE Training must be done in person at the school, by appointment with the instructor and according to both parties’ availability.

Is the practical part of the TVDE Training mandatory?

Yes! You must complete the entire training to be successfully approved. You can schedule the practical lessons directly with the instructor, depending on both availability.

Can I work with a Foreign Driving License?
If you only have a Foreign Driving License, you can enroll in the TVDE Training in the same way, knowing that you will only be able to select a date for the training after you have submitted your Portuguese Driving License to this training entity. By enrolling in advance, you will have an advantage in choosing the date of the training.

To be able to work professionally in Portugal you need to have Portuguese Documentation.

When I finish the TVDE Training, can I start working right away?

Before you start working, you must first add Group II to your Driving License. After your license is updated, you should gather your personal documents, the TVDE Training Certificate, and a clean Criminal Record, and then apply for the TVDE Driver’s Card to begin working.

When should I add Group II to my Driving License?

The Group II endorsement can be done before, during, or after the TVDE Training. For this, you need a Medical Certificate and a Psychotechnical Exam, which you can complete with us at our schools.

How long is the TVDE Training valid for?

The TVDE Training is valid for 5 years. You must renew it before the validity expires; otherwise, you will lose the entire learning process and will need to complete the Initial TVDE Training again.

What are the details of the mandatory end of training assessment?
With the introduction of the Law 344/2024/1, of 19 december, at the end of the training the candidate will have to complete an assessment at the IMT facilities.
This assessment will consist of 30 questions and the trainee must get at least 27 answers correct.

The Renewal of the TVDE Training – stands for Transport of Unmarked Vehicles via Electronic Platform  (in portuguese: Transporte de Veículos Descaracterizados a partir de Plataforma Eletrónica). Is a mandatory training in Portugal for those who wish to continue working as drivers for passenger transport platforms such as Uber, Bolt, and others. 

This type of transport is regulated by Portuguese Law, and the training is necessary to ensure that drivers are reminded of the rules, regulations, and best practices associated with the profession.

You can choose one of the following options:

  • Labor In-Person Odivelas: 1 day – 09h / 13:30h (4h30) + 1 day – E-learning (3h30)

Renewal of your driver card must take place while the card remains within its validity period. If your card has expired, you will need to complete the initial TVDE training.

The Renewal of TVDE Training is intended for drivers who wish to continue practicing the profession and, for this purpose, need to renew their TVDE Driver’s Card.

Individuals of all genders, with proven good character demonstrated by presenting a Criminal Record Certificate, and the physical and psychological fitness required to perform this activity.

The Renewal TVDE Training has a duration of 8 hours, including mandatory theoretical components.

This training is composed of 5 modules: 

  • Communication and Interpersonal Relations – 2 hours 
  • Legal Driving Standards – 1,5 hours 
  • Driving Techniques – 1,5 hours 
  • Regulations of the Activity – 1,5 hours 
  • Emergency Situations and First Aid – 1,5 hours 

With the introduction of the Law 344/2024/1, of 19 december, at the end of the training the candidate will have to complete an assessment at the IMT facilities (applicable to renewals starting at 18 June 2025).

Everything you need to take on consideration

Taking into account the popularization of these vehicles, it is essential that drivers prioritize safety in a passenger vehicle. In addition, respect for traffic signs and rules are essential for everyone’s safety. Therefore, TVDE training aims at the adoption of adequated driving techniques.

The pre-requisites for a TVDE driver are:

  • Have a portuguese driving license with 3 years of category, with endorsement in Group 2 (but you can do the training before having group 2)
  • Suitability, proven by presenting the Criminal Regist Certificate

It is also important to know that TVDE training lasts 50 hours and includes 6 modules of program content.
