TVDE Training

Initial

General Information

The TVDE Training (Transport of Unmarked Vehicles from an Electronic Platform) is a mandatory course in Portugal for anyone who wants to work as a driver on passenger transport platforms such as Bolt.

This type of transport is regulated under Portuguese law, and training is required to ensure that drivers are aware of the rules, regulations, and best practices associated with the profession.

You may choose one of the following training formats:

  • In-person Odivelas (Day schedule): 3 days – 09:00 / 18:00 (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) + Practical Training (6h)

  • In-person Amora (Day schedule): 3 days – 09:00 / 18:00 (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) + Practical Training (6h)

  • Online (Day schedule): 3 days – 09:00 / 18:00 (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) + Practical Training (6h)

  • Online (Evening schedule): 6 days – 18:30 / 22:30 (22h) + 5 days – E-learning (22h) + Practical Training (6h)

Who is it for?

This training is intended for individuals who wish to earn extra income transporting passengers through online platforms such as Bolt.

Candidates of all genders are eligible, provided they present:

  • A valid Criminal Record Certificate
  • Medical Certificate and Psychotechnical Exam proving physical and psychological fitness.
Requirements / Documents Needed

To complete the Initial TVDE Training, you will need:

  • Portuguese Identification Document (Citizen Card, Residence Permit or CPLP Authorization + Passport)
  • Portuguese Driver’s License
  • 3 years with Category B
  • License endorsed for Group II
  • Full Address
  • Phone Number
  • Specific Criminal Record (with no remarks)

If you currently only have a foreign driver’s license, you may still enroll; however, your training date will only be confirmed after you submit your Portuguese Driver’s License to the training entity. Early registration will help you secure preferred training dates.

Note: If you hold Category C or D, the Group II endorsement is not required.

Learning Process

The Initial TVDE Training lasts 50 hours, including mandatory theoretical and practical components.

The course consists of 6 modules:

  • Communication and Interpersonal Relations – 10h
  • Legal Driving Standards – 10h
  • Driving Techniques – 10h
  • Activity Regulations – 6h
  • Emergency Situations and First Aid – 8h
  • Individual Vehicle Driving – 6h

With the introduction of Ordinance 344/2024/1 (December 19), candidates must complete an evaluation at IMT facilities at the end of the course.

TVDE Training

Renewal

General Information

The Renewal Training is mandatory in Portugal for drivers who wish to continue operating on passenger transport platforms such as Bolt.

This training is regulated by Ordinance 344/2024/1 (December 19) and ensures that drivers stay updated on rules, regulations, and best practices in the profession.

Format Available:

  • In-person Odivelas (Day schedule):
    1 day – 09:00 / 13:30 (4h30) + 1 day – E-learning (3h30)

Who is it for?

Drivers who wish to continue working and need to renew their valid TVDE Driver Card.

Candidates must present:

  • Valid Portuguese Identification Document
  • Portuguese Driver’s License endorsed for Group II
  • Valid TVDE Driver Card
  • Specific Criminal Record (no remarks)

Note: If you hold Category C or D, the Group II endorsement is not required.

With the introduction of Ordinance 344/2024/1, from June 18, 2025, candidates will also be required to complete an evaluation at IMT facilities at the end of the renewal training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to complete the TVDE training entirely online?

You can complete the entire theoretical part online, but the practical part of the TVDE Training must be done in person at the school, by appointment with the instructor and according to both parties’ availability.

Is the practical part of the TVDE Training mandatory?

Yes! You must complete the entire training to be successfully approved. You can schedule the practical lessons directly with the instructor, depending on both availability.

Can I work with a Foreign Driving License?
If you only have a Foreign Driving License, you can enroll in the TVDE Training in the same way, knowing that you will only be able to select a date for the training after you have submitted your Portuguese Driving License to this training entity. By enrolling in advance, you will have an advantage in choosing the date of the training.

To be able to work professionally in Portugal you need to have Portuguese Documentation.

When I finish the TVDE Training, can I start working right away?

Before you start working, you must first add Group II to your Driving License. After your license is updated, you should gather your personal documents, the TVDE Training Certificate, and a clean Criminal Record, and then apply for the TVDE Driver’s Card to begin working.

When should I add Group II to my Driving License?

The Group II endorsement can be done before, during, or after the TVDE Training. For this, you need a Medical Certificate and a Psychotechnical Exam, which you can complete with us at our schools.

How long is the TVDE Training valid for?

The TVDE Training is valid for 5 years. You must renew it before the validity expires; otherwise, you will lose the entire learning process and will need to complete the Initial TVDE Training again.

What are the details of the mandatory end of training assessment?
With the introduction of the Law 344/2024/1, of 19 december, at the end of the training the candidate will have to complete an assessment at the IMT facilities.
This assessment will consist of 30 questions and the trainee must get at least 27 answers correct.

Everything you need to take on consideration

Taking into account the popularization of these vehicles, it is essential that drivers prioritize safety in a passenger vehicle. In addition, respect for traffic signs and rules are essential for everyone’s safety. Therefore, TVDE training aims at the adoption of adequated driving techniques.

The pre-requisites for a TVDE driver are:

  • Have a portuguese driving license with 3 years of category, with endorsement in Group 2 (but you can do the training before having group 2)
  • Suitability, proven by presenting the Criminal Regist Certificate

It is also important to know that TVDE training lasts 50 hours and includes 6 modules of program content.
